One important application for industry and logistics is collision avoidance for forklift trucks and autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs). By an improved obstacle detection the working environment would become safer and less goods would be damaged. Fall injuries in health care are a huge problem which creates suffering and unnecessary anxiety amounts family and relatives that a patient are left with an injury for hours with being discovered. In the video it is demonstrated how a Fotonic 3D camera is used to detect and alarm when a fall has occurred. This could improve life for patient, family and reduce cost for the health care. This sensor will also not interfere with the privacy of the patient since the processing of the data is done locally embedded in the camera.
In many environments it is important to detect, count and track people. It could be at an airport, in buses and trains or in a shop or a bank office. See the video for a demo where Fotonic 3D smart cameras are used for people counting.
By utilizing smart 3D cameras and image processing the control system or operator can achieve important information about the goods. As the cameras communicate by Ethernet a large network of measurement nodes can easily be set up. For example the camera can be positioned at a conveyor belt to measure the size and volume of packages, letters or other objects, as in the video.
If bulk goods are placed in a known container or on a known plane the Fotonic 3D camera can be used to estimate their volume. For a demo see the video.
